Bestselling author Cara Lockwood has spent more than two decades entertaining readers with sharp, witty fiction—including the USA Today hit I Do (But I Don’t), which became a Lifetime Original Movie starring Denise Richards. But her latest book is personal, raw, and unflinchingly real.

Titled There’s No Good Book for This But I Wrote One Anyway, Lockwood’s new memoir chronicles her journey through Stage 1 breast cancer with her signature humor, grit, and honesty. Due for release on October 1, 2025—coinciding with Breast Cancer Awareness Month—the book offers both practical insights and emotional support for anyone navigating the diagnosis, treatment, and life after cancer.
In a recent interview on the Savoir Faire Audio Experience, Lockwood opened up about the shock of her diagnosis following a routine mammogram, and how the news upended her life as a mother, working writer, and public figure. “Cancer doesn’t wait for a good time,” she said. “It arrives like an uninvited guest and takes over everything.”
Through 16 months of treatment—including a double mastectomy, chemotherapy, and reconstruction—Lockwood stayed grounded by continuing to write. “It clarified everything,” she shared. “The petty stresses just fell away. It became very clear what matters—and what doesn’t.”
There’s No Good Book for This blends memoir with guidebook, offering emotional support and comic relief. Lockwood doesn’t sugarcoat the hard days, but she also doesn’t shy away from the absurd, sharing laugh-out-loud anecdotes from hospital rooms and doctor’s offices.

“I wrote the book I wish I had,” she said. “Not a medical manual, but a voice that says, ‘I see you. You’re not alone. And yes, even this mess can be funny sometimes.’”
Beyond the personal stories, Lockwood includes her signature “pep talks” at the end of each chapter—short, uplifting messages that offer a hand to anyone who might be stumbling through the darkness. And with 50% of the book’s proceeds going to the Susan G. Komen Foundation and the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, her story continues to give back.
With over 35 books to her name and a publishing resume that includes collaborations with Hallmark, HarperCollins, and Hachette, Lockwood is no stranger to the spotlight. But this latest project reflects a new kind of courage—one rooted not in fantasy, but in the honest, chaotic, beautiful truth of survival.
